There are a lot of things we should take seriously. There are a lot of things that people take too seriously. Way too seriously. It helps when we have something come along and disrupt the order; when someone can upend the balance and leave us in a different state.

The best humor is smart. The best humor challenges the status quo and introduces something absurd so that we are forced to consider a new possibility. The best humor gets us where we aren’t expecting it and leaves a warmth within us that reverberates deep within us.

Sometimes it’s the class clown who relieves everyone of the pressure before a test. Maybe it’s the joke that someone shares when they know you’re having a bad day. It might be the TV show that satirizes society and makes you realize that everything is stupid and people take themselves too seriously.

Humor in games is something that rarely takes the center stage. We commend games for how they look and play, how they tell a story and what they sound like- but not often to we praise them for making us laugh.

Some games go all the way and create something intended just to make you laugh. Others pull from an existing comedy property. Further, some games find clever ways to inject humor into the game in ways we wouldn’t expect.

This month, we turn our focus on humor in games. We’ll highlight games that made us laugh and moments in games that caught us by surprise.
